I read a few reviews of various baby bookends, and people kept mentioning problems with them being attractive but not heavy enough to support books. I needed something that would actually work, and Meredith said that these do, so while the price did give me pause, I went for it.
They do work. My son has a fair number of big nursery rhyme books (prone to toppling) and small board books (light for their width), which collectively aren't easy to keep standing. These bookends do their job without being heavy - which is reassuring in a nursery. They do it by having a long base (as you can see from the picture, the base is as long as the upright is tall), so they might be too space-consuming on a short shelf, but sitting on top of a chest of drawers, as mine do, they're fine.
Additionally, the antique white and the distressing (the white is "worn" off at the corners) goes well with our other nursery furniture, which is off-white and slightly battered.
And lastly, the blocks, loose not glued down, are a very nice inventive touch.
It's a very good design, and well executed - I'm happy to pay more for something of this quality which clearly has thought behind it.

These bookends arrived nearly broken (falling apart). They are very poorly made for the price they are asking. I do NOT recommend this product to anyone. In fact, I returned them for a refund. That is the best thing about amazon, you can return them easily, thank goodness.

I ordered these bookends and the first time I received them both came broken. The second time only one was broken then I decided to get a refund. The quality is terrible and it is a waste of time to even order them because you will be sending them right back.
